Churning Traffic
|
Traffic churning is the technique of sourcing inexpensive traffic and
withstanding conversion through your website, turning it into advertising revenue.
At this point it’s worth mentioning that certain keyword expressions can
often be purchased for significantly less money through the less popular
CPC/PPC providers. For example: take the expression ‘SEO Services’ this
expression can attract as much as $2.00 - $3.00 per click on Google.
However, if you look on Miva.com you will notice that the same expression
attracts only $0.06 for position #1 placement. Whilst Google placement will
achieve higher traffic levels, using the less popular providers can be a
great source of cheap traffic.
There are complete programs and e-books on the market claiming that they have evidence to support that a well-constructed site can purchase traffic from the likes of Miva.com and with well placed contextual advertising (like Google
Adsense) convert the traffic directly into advertising income.
To even consider this technique it is important that your site achieves high conversion rates. Google do not disclose the percentage they pay their referrers but the figure is thought to be in the region of 50%. Using the above example your site needs to convert at least 1 in every 16 clicks, this means your site needs a conversion rate of 6.25% to break even.
I’m sure with a little digging around there are expressions with bigger price differentials but it is important to remember that this technique has got to be able to withstand your site conversion rate. In my experience, your site is doing exceptionally well if it converts 2% of its traffic into sales and 4% of its traffic into advertising
clicks.
