Tips and Tricks for effective Google 'Pay-per-Click' marketing

In order to increase the number of targeted clicks on your ad, to bring traffic to your website, there are a number of important points to remember about an optimization to increase clicks:
  • Your keyword list may be expanded to include relevant variations of keywords.
  • Keywords should be grouped into the most relevant Ad Groups as this will ensure a higher click-through-rate (CTR) and quality score which is likely to improve your ads ranking.
  • All products and aspects of your business should be considered and included in your campaign.
  • General or irrelevant keywords may be removed as users who arrive at a site through these types of keywords are less likely to convert.
  • Negative keywords should be used to prevent your ad from appearing on irrelevant searches.

Campaign Structure

Try to set up Ad Groups that contain a targeted list of keywords with corresponding ad text containing the same terms. As these ads will appear more relevant to the user, this should increase your CTR.

Advert Texts

Create multiple ad texts for all of your Ad Groups as the AdWords system will rotate your ads, analyze their CTRs, and then automatically show the highest performing ad the most often. This allows Google to test different phrases and offers to see what most persuades a user to click.

Users are more likely to click on an ad when the keywords they have used in their searched appear in the title of the ad text. This can increase your CTR. To use this to your advantage, Google has a feature called the 'Keyword Insertion Tool'. This tool dynamically inserts the keywords the user is searching for, into the ad text wherever you use the ‘{KeyWord:}’ formula.

Keywords

Working with your original keyword list try to expand the list by adding variations of keywords which had performed well and additional relevant keywords.  Also always look to add singular and plural variations of these keywords.   Try to delete any of the more general or less relevant keywords,  as ads which do not appear relevant will be less likely to be clicked upon.  Your new keyword list should trigger your ad more often to a targeted audience interested in your website.

Negative Keywords

Add negative keywords at a campaign level. These negative keywords should protect your CTR by filtering out irrelevant searches which in turn may help your Quality Score and your ads ranking. For example, Pakatak sell spy cameras so we filter hacking and cracking terms using negative keywords to stop these expressions from generating many clicks from irrelevant searches.
