Making Money Without a Product

There is a breed of website run by savvy webmasters who have realized that one of the biggest internet commodities is the traffic their site generates.  Sites that generate traffic don’t necessarily need to sell a product or service, as there is plenty of cash to be made shifting the traffic the site generates to alternative sites that do sell a product or service.

There a few key requirements for this type of site:
  • Good content, because good content will always generate traffic!
  • Knowing who your visitors are, you need to work out what types of people will visit your site and identify the products and services these people are likely to be interested in.
  • Establishing high commission affiliate links with sites that sell products that will appeal to your average visitor.

This means doing a little market research, for example: if the content of your site is likely to attract a mainly teenage audience, you need to establish the products and services the average teenager is interest in and of those products and services which ones pay the best affiliate commissions.

If you are considering this type of site, in our opinion, it is important that your site provides some value. There are plenty of sites that consist of a paragraph or two of manufactured content and the rest of the page will be made up of tens of high commission generating affiliate links. However, if your site actually provides the visitor with some value, you may give them a reason to return to your site in the future.

There is a wealth of information on the internet, you don’t need to be a ‘rocket scientist’ to do a bit of research and identify a few decent points of interest. If you can then ‘in your own words’ turn these points into a page or two good informative content you will be providing your visitors with some value. Repeat this simple process with new information every two or three days and you have a site that has regularly updated, interesting content that will keep visitors returning on a regular basis.

I am aware of sites that actually identify their market first, and then consider the content of their site to attract the visitors. For example: knowing that gaming / casino sites pay massive affiliate commissions, if you can provide content on your site that will attract gaming / casino visitors you could generate as much as $3 per click for any visitors you can get to follow your affiliate links. A site that provides decent casino information like, poker/ blackjack best practice guides or guides to the best casinos in Vegas or a guide to the casinos which have the best playing regulations etc. etc. could pick up targeted traffic that could be sold for as much as $3 a click.
